Short Film competition: Green Epiphanies

I run the Green Stories competitions. They began in 2018 with a short story competition and since then we’ve run 21 competitions, all free or almost free, to encourage writers to embed sustainable solutions in their stories. Formats have ranged from short stories to radio plays, screenplays, interactive fiction and novels. These have given rise to numerous publications, for example some Green Stories winners have had their books published by Habitat Press

Last year Green Stories ran a flash fiction competition about moments of transformation where a character changes for the greener. We had hundreds of wonderful entries and the best were compiled into an anthology: The Last Plastic Fork and Other Green Epiphanies published earlier this year.

Now Green Stories are launching a new short film competition where they invite you to bring to life one of the winning short stories (under 500 words) from the flash fiction competition by adapting it into a short film or animation under 2 minutes long. The short film or animation should capture the spirit of epiphany — a transformative moment which causes one or more characters to change for the greener.

The original authors welcome your adaptations! You may stay faithful to the text or creatively reinterpret it. The deadline is 31st December 2026. Please see full details here: https://www.greenstories.org.uk/short-film-competition-epiphanies/

I can’t wait to see what films emerge!

And as a taster of what’s next, I hope to have completed my Jigsaw To Save The World next year and this offers a lovely opportunity for a graphic art/design competition to design the jigsaw pieces. Details here.
